19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his first championship for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid season, winning just one win at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in particular - caused him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately separating with former trainer his previous coach.
Currently collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily advanced in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's maiden title since the Rome competition and first on a hard court after March of 2023.
Victory also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my both daughters together, so to get a championship is particularly special," said world number 14 Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, featuring in that event in the past months.
His retrieving strategy and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had caused observers to doubt if his ability to compete at the top level was finished.
Yet the player has altered his approach in the past month, striving to advance forward and compete assertively, reinforced by an better serving game.
Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the final five games to go ahead.
The pair swapped break points in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first ATP Tour victory, took control to force a final set.
The opponent defended 4 early-game opportunities in a tight third set before the champion won the break to 15 to serve for the match.
Appropriately, he earned the title with a point at the net area, with his opponent unable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
