The European Union might “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it deems “unwarranted” visa bans imposed by the US against five European individuals involved in combating online hate and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson stated.
EU Officials Condemn US Move as ‘Intimidation’
Officials from Europe including the French president accused the US administration of “bullying and threats”, following the visa restrictions targeted figures that were at the heart of campaigns to introduce legislation governing US-based technology firms.
“For too long, European activists have spearheaded organised efforts to coerce US companies to suppress US perspectives they oppose,” stated the US secretary of state in a social media post. “The current administration will not stand for these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
